Traffic and Parking: Keeping Sunset Beach Safe and Accessible

To help maintain the safety, accessibility, and quiet enjoyment of Sunset Beach for all residents and visitors, the Summer Village has a Traffic Control Bylaw in place.

Whether you are driving, parking, walking, or operating an off-highway vehicle, please respect the following rules.

Speed Limits:
  • The maximum speed limit in Sunset Beach is 40 km/h unless otherwise posted.

  • Please drive with extra caution — children, pets, walkers, and cyclists share our roads!

Parking Rules:
  • Do not block roadways, driveways, mailboxes, or access points when parking.

  • Parking on Reserve Lands (parks, green spaces, trails, etc.) is not permitted.

  • Vehicles must not be parked in a way that interferes with snow removal, emergency access, or maintenance operations.

  • Be respectful of neighboring properties — do not park on someone else's lot or obstruct their access.

Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs):
  • OHVs such as quads, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides must operate only on designated routes and must obey all posted speed limits.

  • Operators must drive responsibly and yield to pedestrians and regular traffic at all times.

  • All OHV operators and passengers must wear helmets, as required by Alberta law.

Heavy Vehicles:
  • Large commercial or heavy vehicles (over 7,000 kg gross weight) are not permitted on local roads unless delivering goods or performing authorized work.

  • Parking of heavy vehicles, trailers, or construction equipment on public roads is not allowed without prior permission from the Summer Village.

Respect for Pedestrians and Cyclists:
  • Always yield to pedestrians.

  • Be extra cautious at intersections, curves, and blind spots where walkers, joggers, and cyclists may be harder to see.

Enforcement:

Violations of the Traffic Control Bylaw can result in fines, towing, or other enforcement actions.
Our goal is to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone — thank you for doing your part!

Together, we can keep Sunset Beach safe, peaceful, and welcoming for all!
