Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP)
Athabasca County and the Summer Villages of South Baptiste, Sunset Beach, West Baptiste and Whispering Hills have engaged Municipal Planning Services (MPS) to assist with the preparation of an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP).
Throughout 2020, the Summer Villages, the County, and MPS have been working to prepare a draft IDP, which is a high-level statutory land use plan for areas of mutual interest of two or more municipalities.
DRAFT IDP FOR REVIEW
The draft IDP and supporting public engagement materials from the Online Open House held February 16, 2021 are available for your review. Community members are encouraged to watch the YouTube video presentation, review the draft IDP, and complete the feedback survey by February 24, 2021.
After the survey closes, MPS will compile all of the feedback received from community members, which will be documented and summarized in a What We Heard Report (WWHR). The WWHR will be posted on the County’s website for your review and shared with the County and the Summer Village.
The WWHR will help guide the County and the Summer Village to determine if/where revisions to the draft IDP should be made.

Land Use Bylaw (LUB) and Municipal Development Plan (MDP)
ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. has been contracted by your community to complete updates to your Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB).
Two of the most important planning documents in a municipality are its MDP and LUB. The MDP guides growth and development in a municipality – providing a framework for more detailed and specific plans, policies and programs. The LUB regulates land use and development within a municipality – organizing it into Land Use Districts and outlining the permitted and discretionary uses within each District.
Taken together, the MDP sets the framework for how Sunset Beach will grow and the LUB directs day-to-day development decisions.

The Municipal Development Plan has now been passed. A copy will be posted as soon as it is available.
Land Use Bylaw (LUB)
Please take a moment to fill out the survey after reviewing the new draft copy. Surveys should be complete prior to June 11, 2021.
The wastewater bylaw will be part of the public hearing for the Land Use Bylaw being held on April 7, 2021 at 7:00 PM.
