Reserve Lands: Shared Spaces for Everyone

In the Summer Village of Sunset Beach, Reserve Lands are public spaces that belong to everyone.
They are set aside for environmental protection, community enjoyment, and public access to natural areas like the lake, parks, and trails.

Reserve Lands are important — they protect our environment and give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Sunset Beach.

What You Need to Know:
  • No Permanent Structures:
Permanent structures like sheds, fences, decks, patios, firepits, or buildings are not permitted on Reserve Lands unless put there by the municipality.

  • Temporary Use:
You are welcome to walk, picnic, or enjoy these spaces for recreation — but any personal items brought onto Reserve Lands must be removed after use.

  • Respect Natural Vegetation:
Cutting trees, mowing grass, altering the landscape, or removing native plants is not allowed without specific written permission from the Summer Village.

  • Public Access Must Remain Open:
Reserve Lands must remain open and accessible to everyone. No one may block or privatize any part of a Reserve.

  • No Storage:
Boats, docks, trailers, building materials, or any other personal property may not be stored on Reserve Lands.

Why It Matters:

  • Protects natural ecosystems and shorelines

  • Ensures fair and equal access for all residents and visitors

  • Helps maintain the beauty and character of Sunset Beach for future generations
