Golf Cart Pilot Program
The Summer Village of Sunset Beach is participating in Alberta’s Golf Cart Pilot Project, which allows residents to operate golf carts on all municipal roads within the village under specific rules designed to keep everyone safe.
This five-year initiative, authorized under Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act, offers residents a fun, convenient, and environmentally friendly way to move around the community.
Key Guidelines for Golf Cart Operation:

Permitted Areas:
Golf carts are allowed on all public roads within Sunset Beach. -
Operator Requirements:
Operators must be at least 14 years old. -
Seating Capacity:
The number of passengers must not exceed the number of seats in the golf cart. No standing while in motion. -
Passenger Safety:
All passengers must remain seated while the golf cart is moving. -
Operating Hours:
Golf carts can only be operated during daylight hours — from one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset. -
Traffic Laws:
Golf cart operators must follow all regular traffic laws (speed limits, yielding, stop signs, etc.).
How to Get a Golf Cart Permit
To legally operate a golf cart on Sunset Beach public roads, residents must obtain a permit.

Fill out all required information, including proof of insurance. -
Submit the Application and Fee:
Follow the instructions on the form to submit your application.
Permit Fee: $25 per golf cart. -
Receive Your Permit:
Once approved, display your permit and sticker as instructed.
