Emergency Preparedness
Emergencies can happen at any time, and being prepared is the best way to help keep yourself, your family, and your neighbors safe. Whether it's a wildfire, severe storm, or another emergency situation, having a plan in place is important.
Muster Point
In the event of an evacuation or emergency gathering, residents of the Summer Village of Sunset Beach should proceed to the gazebo at Centennial Park. This location serves as our community Muster Point where information and further instructions will be provided.
How to Prepare
-
Make an emergency kit with essentials like water, food, medications, and important documents.
-
Know your evacuation routes and have a transportation plan.
-
Stay informed by checking trusted sources like Alberta Emergency Alerts.
-
Ensure your contact information is updated with the Summer Village to receive emergency communications if needed.
AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators)
The Summer Village of Sunset Beach is committed to the health and safety of our residents and visitors. To help in the event of a cardiac emergency, we have installed three Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the community.
AED Locations:
-
515 Willow Drive
-
705 Willow Drive
-
(Third AED location coming soon — stay tuned!)
AEDs are easy to use and can make a critical difference while waiting for emergency responders. Each device provides simple, step-by-step voice instructions to guide you through the process.
In an emergency:
-
Call 9-1-1 immediately.
-
Send someone to retrieve the nearest AED.
-
Follow the voice prompts from the AED until professional help arrives.
Knowing where the AEDs are located could save a life — take a moment to familiarize yourself with these locations!
Mini Emergency Checklist
It’s a good idea to have an emergency kit ready at all times. Here are some essentials every household should have on hand:
✅ Drinking water (at least 3 days’ supply — about 4 litres per person per day)
✅ Non-perishable food (enough for 3 days)
✅ Medications (including any prescriptions and basic first aid supplies)
✅ Important documents (ID, insurance papers, property information, stored in a waterproof bag)
✅ Pet supplies (food, leash, medications if needed)
✅ Flashlight and extra batteries
✅ Portable phone charger
✅ Emergency contact list
✅ Cash (in case bank machines are down)
Having these items ready can make a big difference if you ever need to evacuate or shelter in place.
