As the leaves change and the air gets a little crisper, we wanted to share a few updates and exciting projects happening in our community.
π° Waterline Project Update
The Summer Village of Sunset Beach will no longer be contributing financially to the Athabasca County Waterline Project β but the good news is, it looks like the project is still moving forward! The County has graciously decided to cover the costs themselves, and the plan still includes a truck fill station in the Whispering Hills area, which will benefit our residents and surrounding communities.
π‘ Centennial Park Improvements
- Our new storage shed will be installed in Centennial Park this fall, giving us a secure and practical space to support events and maintenance needs.
- Weβre also excited to announce that horseshoe pits will be added to the park β perfect for some friendly competition next summer!
- Planning and pricing for a new playground are underway, with installation anticipated for spring.
π Roadway Improvements
Weβre looking at widening the turnaround area at the end of Birch Drive. You may have noticed some ribboned-off areas β this was done to get quotes for the project. Work will be completed in the spring, which will make it easier for large trucks to turn around without driving onto the grass.
π¦ Traffic Safety
Weβll be installing two solar-powered speed signs in the Summer Village. These should help encourage slower driving speeds so we can hopefully avoid having to consider speed bumps in the future.
π Fiber Internet Coming 2026
Thanks to a federal grant project to bring high-speed internet to all communities in Alberta, fiber internet will be installed to the road only throughout the Summer Village this spring.
This is a significant step toward improving connectivity for residents and will make it easier for property owners to connect to reliable high-speed service if they choose to extend it to their homes.
π° Grant Funding, Not Tax Dollars
The storage shed, horseshoe pits, playground, turnaround improvements, and speed signs are all being funded through provincial grants, not local tax dollars.
Thank you to everyone who takes pride in our beautiful lakeside community. Weβre excited to keep improving Sunset Beach together.
Wishing you all a cozy and colourful fall,
